Commit like a Gold Medal winner

Whether you watch the Olympics or not, I’m sure you’re aware of what they are and all about Olympic champions. This year as I watched the games, and many of the heart warming stories of the family sacrifices to train their champions I thought about how inspirational it should be to all of us in our business.

What makes a champion? First, they love what they do, and second they are committed to do whatever it takes to be the best in their field. Yes, I am sure there are days when that alarm goes off at 3:00 or 4:00 AM to get up and get ready to head out to practice that they, just like the rest of us, would sometimes like to throw it against the wall! But, they don’t. They are committed and they just do what they have to do. They stay focused with their eye always on the prize.

Not only do the athlete give so much of themselves, but consider the Mom’s and Dad’s who drive them to practice… some even giving up their own dreams to help their children live theirs. I think this is a Divine agreement they have made, and I believe if you asked them they would not change it for anything in the world. They also do what they need to do with total commitment.

Now, consider the coach. This is a person who has dedicated their life to training the athlete to be the best they can possibly be. They are there to push them, to cheer them on, to console them, to do whatever is necessary at the appropriate time to help them be the best they can possibly be. They never waver on their commitment.

Behind the scenes, there are countless others who support in many ways. Anyone involved in equipment, costumes, travel arrangements, nutrition, the list goes on and on. All play a vital part in creating the champion, who would not and could not be who they were meant to be without them. Each one plays an integrate part in creating the end result, each one is doing what they are meant to do.

So, think about your business. Are you the champion? Do you commit to whatever it takes? Do you let your coach, your back up team, anyone who supports you in countless numbers of small ways do their part? Do you have the coach, the team, everything you need so you can stay focused on your part of the agreement?

Look at the Olympic champions for inspiration, commit to whatever it takes, and be sure you have the background support you need, and most importantly, let them do their part while you do yours, all with total commitment.
